Help in Kindergaden

Program Overview

Many foreigners are enthusiastic about this program as it offers a unique opportunity to engage with Sri Lankan children in a meaningful way. Participants help out in local kindergartens, fostering a joyful and educational environment. The program runs every weekday from Monday to Friday, with sessions held from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. This hands-on involvement not only supports the children's development but also provides a rewarding experience for volunteers, who get to immerse themselves in Sri Lankan culture while making a positive impact on young lives.

In Sri Lankan preschools, the focus is on enhancing children’s mental development and fine motor skills through delicate handling of tasks. The daily routine is diverse, incorporating activities like counting songs, dances, and various engaging programs, rather than relying solely on bookwork. Sri Lankan preschoolers are very curious and excited to interact with foreigners, although they might initially be shy or reserved. Once they become friends with the volunteers, they open up and comfortably participate in normal activities. This interaction not only enriches their learning experience but also fosters cross-cultural connections.

Program Location

Galle is a city on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast, renowned for its historic Galle Fort. Founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century, the fort features expansive stone sea walls that were later enhanced by the Dutch. These walls encircle car-free streets, showcasing a blend of Portuguese, Dutch, and British architectural styles. Key landmarks include the 18th-century Dutch Reformed Church and Galle Lighthouse, which stands prominently on the fort’s southeast tip. The fort and its surroundings offer a glimpse into the city's rich colonial past, making Galle a significant cultural and historical destination.
